I began writing as a kid. In sixth grade, I wrote a play entitled, "Operation Pineapple," which the local college performed. It was amazing watching my ideas come to life on the stage. I also wrote many short stories. My primary influence was science fiction and any and all books that my mom had at home, from the classics to almanacs.
After the attacks of 9-11, I began telling my sixth grade history and english students a story, primarily as a way to distract them from the horrible news on TV. Eventually, I began writing the story. Kids came back from high school to ask about it, and it was then that I realized I had a good idea. A Cleft Mind, the first book in the Search a Darker Sky trilogy, came out in 2011.
Since then, I have been fortunate to visit many schools and speak to thousands of students about the importance of reading. There is a critical link between reading and writing, and I try to illustrate that connection with a combination of story-telling, cooperative activities and stupid human tricks. In April I am scheduled to return to my alma mater, Santa Lucia Middle School, in Cambria, California. I hope by then to have completed book two, "The Oregon Story."
After reading A Cleft Mind, won't you be so kind as to log in to Amazon and write a review? Thank you!
