Tamara Montgomery

Dr. Tamara Montgomery is pleased to announce her new series of Nature Poems for Curious Children. Intended for youngsters ages 2-8, and beautifully photographed, these books are all about animals. "Kisses" and "Hold on Tight" show mother animals carrying, cuddling and kissing their babies. "In My Hand" shows baby animals being cared for and hand fed. "Bears" is a romp through the woods and "Colors of the Rainforest" teaches young children about colors. Dr. Tamara Montgomery has traveled the world with her husband Cliff, finding inspiration from the endangered species she encounters and the cultures she experiences. "Tasi’s Gift" evolved during her many summers teaching in American Samoa. She was inspired to write "When the Cassowary Pooped" (winner of the best illustrated book of 2010 by the Hawaii Book Publishers Association) after seeing the bird in a zoo in Australia. "Kraken-ka" found its origin in her knowledge of Indonesian shadow puppetry. "TiQri" was born from her desire to tell children, “celebrate who you are!” Tamara creates puppet shows of all her books and makes frequent guest appearances in Hawaii’s schools. All of her books have been premiered as stage productions at Kennedy Theatre in Honolulu.

Tamara is known nationally and internationally for her work in educational puppetry. She recently retired after 40 years as Director of Youth Theatre and Puppetry at the University of Hawaii. During her career she published many books, including several for teachers on how to use puppets in the classroom.
