Francoise Baylis

Françoise Baylis is a philosopher with an international reputation for her work in applied ethics at the intersection of theory and practice. Her innovative work in bioethics spans many topics including women's reproductive health, research involving humans, and novel technologies. It challenges others to think broadly and deeply about the direction of health research and technology. Her most recent book "Altered Inheritance: CRISPR and the Ethics of Human Genome Editing" invites us all to reflect on whether heritable human genome editing is a boon or a threat.

Baylis is the recipient of numerous awards and accolades including most recently the 2022 Killam Prize (Humanities). She is a member of the Order of Canada and the Order of Nova Scotia, as well as a Fellow of the Royal Society of Canada, a Fellow of the Canadian Academy of Health Sciences, and a Fellow of the International Science Council.
