Dr. Ann Darby Getty has worked in the field of deaf education for more than 30 years, teaching in both state schools for the deaf and in public school mainstream/inclusive learning environments. She has worked as a speech therapist, parent educator, early childhood specialist, curriculum coordinator for grades k-12, and program coordinator for grades k-12. Dr. Getty gained certification from the Registry of Interpreters for the Deaf as a sign language interpreter/transliterator and has interpreted in educational settings as well as various other venues.
Additionally, Dr. Getty has taught at the graduate level in the Deaf Studies Program at McDaniel College, where she also supervised student teachers during internship placements. Over the years, she has presented at several state and regional conferences on deafness and has served as a consultant at multiple schools for the deaf.
She holds degrees in Speech Pathology from Marshall University, Education of the Deaf from Western Maryland College (now known as McDaniel College), and Curriculum and Instruction from West Virginia University. Currently, Dr. Getty is on the faculty of Frostburg State University’s Department of Educational Professions. She is available to speak at conferences as well as to offer consultative services.
Ann is the mother of two adult daughters, Meghan and Morghan. She resides in Western Maryland with her husband, Greg and their dog, Willie Nelson.
