Boyd K. Smith PhD

Dr. Boyd K. Smith holds a Bachelor of Arts in Business/Psychology, a Master’s in Whole Systems Design, a Master’s in Organizational Development, and a Ph.D. in Human and Organizational Systems. A college professor for over twenty years, he currently teaches online for DeVry University in a number of subjects at both the undergraduate and graduate levels. Dr. Smith is also a former Director of On Line and Distance Learning Programs for City University as well as having been a student adviser and admissions counselor.

Dr. Smith says: “I have followed, and continue to follow, student journeys through the challenging world of college coursework while trying to balance other life activities. I advise my students as needed in how to succeed as well as observing over the years how my own family has succeeded beyond my greatest expectations.” Further, “I have both observed and studied my children and their children as they succeeded in their preparations for college as well as their successes once they got there. This dynamic process is continuing as I write this guide to help others achieve their highest level of success possible. My youngest granddaughter graduates from Washington State University in May 2019. My oldest grandson is now graduating from his Ph.D. program in Chemical Engineering-biomedine at the University of Washington, and my youngest grandson completed his Construction Engineering program at Oregon State University in June of 2018 and accepted a career position with a well-known construction engineering firm in Seattle at that time.

Prior to his passing, my son taught pre-engineering courses at his high school alma mater, and his wife, Tami, taught and was a teaching mentor at the local middle school until her promotion to a district level position. Tami’s mother, Bev, taught at a local elementary school until her retirement in 2017.

So I have a number of advisers to consult with as well as using my own knowledge regarding high school and college preparation and best practices.

In order to prosper after college, it is also very important to know the expectations of the business world. Dr. Smith’s 30+ years of business and management experience exemplifies best practices in business as well as demonstrating an intimate knowledge of 21st century business needs.

Venturing in to the corporate world for the first time can be a daunting experience to the uninitiated. Dr. Smith’s knowledge and experience provides easy steps to make that transition in his new book: A Professor's Guide to College Success - A Survivor's Guide for First-time Students and Working Adults.
