Brett Rutherford

Brett Rutherford (1947- ) was born in Scottdale PA. He starting writing poetry around age 13, and published his first poetry during a sojourn in San Francisco in 1967. Much of his poetry, neo-Romantic and supernatural, springs from the landscape of his native Pennsylvania. He attended Edinboro State College (now Edinboro University) before beginning an editing and writing career in New York City, where he founded The Poet's Press in 1971. He has published two novels, and has written verse plays as well as about 15 volumes of poetry. He spent a number of years in Providence, Rhode Island, where he finished a Master's Degree at University of Rhode Island, where he worked full-time in distance learning and as a part-time instructor in the Gender and Women's Studies Dept. The Poet's Press and its Yogh & Thorn imprint have now published 227 books, including his annotated editions of World War I literature, and a four-volume series on the history of supernatural poetry. In late 2015, Rutherford moved to Pittsburgh, PA to be near his ancestral haunts, and to continue writing and publishing. He is also working on music composition, and writes program notes for classical music concerts.
