Edette was born in sunny Northern California. She grew up with two sisters and a brother, and loved riding fast horses across grassy fields then reining them aside her hometown streets while she bought candy at a local store.

Young Jim spent nineteen snowy winters and thunderstorm summers growing up in small towns around Lake Michigan before acting on an inner call in 1971 to go west.

Five years later in California, Jim Short and Edette Rebsamen met.

Thirty-nine years after meeting, now grandparents and still best friends, Edette and Jim love their three adult children, a cosmetologist, a bank manager and a police officer. All local to home. And they love their five grandchildren. And they've learned that many things are incredibly special about life, love and being a grandma and grandpa.
