Murray Stewart

Murray Stewart switched from the world of corporate restructuring to less-lucrative travel writing in 2009, seeking a change from making people redundant and closing down insolvent businesses.

Inspired by visits to over 60 countries, teaching English in both Mexico and Chile, working as a consultant in Spain and walking the Camino de Santiago (three times), he has now updated numerous guidebooks (Cabo Verde, The Azores, The Vendee, North Cyprus) and written the first edition of Bradt's 'The Basque Country and Navarre' from scratch. This book won the coveted British Guild of Travel Writers' 'Best Travel Guidebook of 2016' Award in November of that year. He also wrote a walking guide to the Camino Ignaciano, which in 2023 was shortlisted for the same award.

Murray has updated the Basque Country, Navarra and La Rioja chapters of Frommer's prestigious Spain guidebook twice.

Always seeking out the unusual, he believes firmly that everyone has a story to tell and that interactions with people are what make for good and interesting travel writing. In recent times, he has taken on a Partnerships Manager role with a UK-based travel publisher, the trusteeship of a charity for the elderly, as well as public speaking engagements to raise funds for two charities.
