Trevor Herbert

I am Emeritus Professor of Music at the Open University in the UK. I was born and live in Wales. I was educated at St Luke’s College, Exeter, the Royal College of Music and the Open University. Before entering academic life I was a trombone player with many of the UK's leading orchestras.

I have two main strands of research and writing interests. I write about musical instruments, especially brass instruments and I also write about cultural history. The latter theme influences my approach to all topics about which I write but I have also applied it to publications about Welsh history.

I have also written or contributed to various educational and online books and reference works.

I have few other interests other than good wine, rugby football and reading.

My main publishers are Oxford University Press, Cambridge University Press, University of Wales Press, Routledge, ABRSM and Yale University Press.
