Catherine Matthias

Catherine Matthias is a Certified Irlen Syndrome Screener and the author of six early reader picture books published in English and Spanish by Childrens Press, a division of Scholastic Publishing. Her two nonfiction books, I Can Be a Police Officer and I Can Be a Computer Operator, were part of a career series. Catherine’s fiction titles are Over-Under, Out the Door, and the popular I Love Cats and Too Many Balloons.

Her love of children’s books began when she worked in a preschool in Cheltenham, PA, during her mid-twenties. The Word Gobblers—a handbook for parents (and teachers) working with children struggling to read is a natural extension of her Irlen Screening work, her picture book writing, and her desire to see all children enjoy reading.

Catherine lives with her husband Stewart Jones in rural Joseph, Oregon. They have four children, five grandchildren, and a sweet gray tabby named Mica.
