John W. Schiemann

John Schiemann received his Ph.D. in Political Science from Columbia University in 1999 and is currently Associate Professor of Political Science at Fairleigh Dickinson University in New Jersey. He is the author of a book on transitions to democracy and numerous articles political science journals, including the American Journal of Political Science and the Journal of Politics. His most recent book is Does Torture Work? (Oxford University Press, 2015). He is the recipient of his university's Distinguished Faculty Award for Research as well as the Maddy Award for Outstanding Faculty Member from students. He teaches courses on torture, comparative politics, political philosophy, and game theory. When he is not teaching or writing, he enjoys spending time with his family, reading political philosophy, working on his house, brewing beer, and a bunch of other stuff for which he really doesn't have the time.
