Jesse Yoder

Dr. Jesse Yoder, President of Flow Research, has 36 years of experience writing about and analyzing process control and instrumentation markets, beginning as president and founder of Idea Network. He received a B.A. degree in philosophy at the University of Maryland in 1973. From there, he did his graduate work at The Rockefeller University in New York and the University of Massachusetts Amherst. At Rockefeller University he studied with Harry Frankfurt, Donald Davidson, Joel Feinberg, and Saul Kripke. He received a PhD in philosophy from the University of Massachusetts in 1984, writing in philosophy of mind.

In addition to the 32 years he has spent writing market studies, Dr. Yoder spent 10 years as a technical writer. Almost four years of this were spent writing technical manuals and training guides for the process control division of Siemens. Dr. Yoder spent 10 years as an adjunct philosophy professor at the University of Massachusetts Lowell and Lafayette College. He founded Flow Research, Inc. in 1998, where he still serves as President.

Dr. Yoder has received two patents for new dual-sensor flowmeter designs. Several prototypes of these designs have been built and have been tested at CEESI. He has written over 280 market studies, has published over 300 articles on flow and instrumentation in industry journals, and has written several books. One book is called The Tao of Measurement: A Philosophical View of Flow and Sensors, with Richard E. Morley as co-contributor. This book was published in 2015 by the International Society of Automation (ISA). Topics covered include temperature, pressure, flow, time, length, and area. Dr. Yoder has also written another two-volume set of books called Advances in Flow Measurement that was published in 2022 by CRC Press. The books are called New-Technology Flowmeters and Conventional Flowmeters. These books cover the history, principle of operation, applications, and frontiers of research for all ten of the main types of flowmeters.

In January 2022, Flow Research published a 2-volume study on the worldwide flowmeter market called Volume X: The World Market for Flowmeters, 8th Edition. It is accompanied by another volume called Module A: Strategies, Industries, and Applications, published in April 2022. For more information, visit http://www.flowvolumex.com. Flow Research published four additional studies in 2022 on pressure transmitters, magnetic flowmeters, turbine flowmeters, and variable area flowmeters. Eight more studies are planned for 2023.
