Kate O'Neill

Kate O'Neill is known worldwide as the Tech Humanist. That name refers to a question she has been working on for twenty-five years: what happens to human experience when technology runs at the scale of millions of people, and what leaders can do about it while the answer is still open.

She has come at that question from multiple directions in many roles. She was one of Netflix's first hundred employees, built Toshiba America's first intranet, and founded an analytics firm before starting KO Insights, where she now advises Google, IBM, Microsoft, Harvard, Yale, and the United Nations. Thinkers50 ranked her among the world's top management thinkers in 2025, the same year What Matters Next was named to their Best New Management Books list.

She has written six books, from Pixels and Place and Tech Humanist to the memoir Surviving Death. Her work has appeared in the New York Times, Wall Street Journal, Fast Company, and WIRED, and she has been a guest on NPR and the BBC.
