Barry Kalb

Barry Kalb's writings reflect his widespread travels as a journalist, university lecturer, and consultant on the subject of good English-language writing and effective communication. Stories he has covered include the 1960's anti-war, counter-culture and civil rights movements and the Watergate affair in the U.S.; the immediate aftermath of the Vietnam War in Southeast Asia, the deaths of Mao Zedong and Josip Broz Tito, the beginning of the Solidarity movement in Poland, Pope John Paul II's first homecoming visit to Poland, the attempted assassination of the Pope in Rome, the Vatican Bank scandal of 1983, coordinated official attacks on the Mafia in Italy and the U.S., and (as an editor in Hong Kong) the failed six-party talks on North Korea's nuclear program.

In addition to his novels, Kalb has authored a handbook, "You Can Write Better English," aimed primarily at the mistakes that native speakers of Chinese, Thai and other Asian languages routinely make when writing in English. He is currently at work on a third novel.

Kalb has lived and worked in Washington, D.C., California, Hong Kong, West Berlin, Rome, New York, Greece and Thailand.
