John Avery

John is the author of The Name Quest and compilations of his thoughtful Bible devotionals. He trained as a teacher and has over thirty years experience as a Bible teaching pastor, small group leader, and missionary. He has lived in England, Israel, Africa, and the Caribbean, ministering with Youth With A Mission (YWAM) and local churches. He and his wife live in Oregon, where "outdoorsy" is a real word. John likes to hike, snowshoe, and cross country ski. John writes his Bible devotionals whenever he is inspired in his own times with the Lord in the Bible. He also maintains a comprehensive online resource for all the names of God in the Bible.

The Name Quest: Explore the Names of God to Grow in Faith and Get to Know Him better, won the Oregon Christian Writers' Cascade Award for non-fiction. His devotional Footsteps on the Ceiling won their award for devotionals.

His Sparks Series of thought-provoking devotionals are collections on topics like the kingdom of God, the Holy Spirit, growing more like Jesus, and Questions of Jesus.
