Alice Benson lives in Wisconsin with her partner and their small dog, Max. She discovered writing as a passion in the third act of her life and devotes as much time as possible to it.
From Alice: I’ve loved to read for as long as I can remember. Some of my happiest childhood times were spent lying in the shade of a walnut tree with a bowl of grapes and a book. Fortunately, I was able to share that love of reading with my son, and he and his wife passed it down to their daughters. Since reading is so important to me, writing seemed like the next obvious step. My whole life, I dreamed of writing something substantial, something that others would enjoy. I love writing, because it helps me think about myself and the world more fully and with more clarity.
I’ve written three adult literary novels, as well as a number of short stories that I’ve compiled into three short Kindle books. I’m especially excited to share the middle-grade novel and a young adult novel that I wrote in collaboration with my granddaughters.
Trapped in a Tablet and Nana Was a Bootlegger were both born from a shared love of reading, writing, and storytelling between generations.
About three years ago, I was working on my fourth novel, when my granddaughters, Greta, Genevieve, and I engaged in a long conversation about reading and writing. During the middle of our discussion, they both shared ideas for plots and characters and possible books. Over the course of the next few years, I collaborated with each granddaughter to develop their ideas into finished novels.
Working with my granddaughters helped me rediscover how much fun it was to let my imagination run free, and we played with lots of stories and ideas to develop Trapped in a Tablet and Nana Was a Bootlegger. We were able to create something special together, and to show how stories can bridge hearts and generations. As an amazing bonus, this project allowed grandmother and granddaughters to create some beautiful memories together that will last long into the future.
