Bill Sharp grew up in the small towns of Lacombe and Barrhead, Alberta, Canada, and after leaving a career in banking, he joined the Royal Canadian Mounted Police in 1968. After basic recruit training he was posted to the western province of British Columbia where he served in nine detachments - some large cities and others small towns, interspersed with secondments to Ottawa and Nunavut Territory. He served for over forty-three years as a uniformed street cop in the RCMP and retired in 2011.
