Cihan Kaan

Cihan Kaan (1976) was born in Dallas, Texas and raised in Brooklyn, New York. Prior to completing his university studies at Brooklyn College, taking classes with renowned beat writer Allen Ginsburg, he worked at New York One News and Film/Video Arts Young Filmmakers Lower East Side facility. His combined talents contributed to creating the first Interactive Multimedia curriculum for the City University of New York which combined computer science, filmmaking and digital art. During his mixed-media career he has produced music under the moniker '8Bit', directed music videos for MTV's first electronic music only show AMP, made award winning cult movies like "She's Got an Atomic Bomb", taught students at Digital Film Academy and worked in the hustle of Madison Avenue advertising agencies. His first book "Halal Pork & Other Stories" has been compared to modern-satirists like Chester Himes with the poetic flow of Amiri Baraka, delving into cultural politics with a spiritual mind-bending narrative structure that is both edgy and current at the same time. He currently lives in Venice, California.
