Ron McLain is the Founder and Executive Director of the Healthy Marriage Coalition and is an oft-requested speaker at marriage seminars and men’s retreats. With a strong passion for Godly marriages, Ron speaks to numerous groups each year, challenging and inspiring people to build the marriage that God intended.
Ron was born and raised in Yakima, Washington, where he met and married his high school sweetheart, Joan, in 1969. Ron graduated from San Jose State University in 1974, after which he joined the staff of Campus Crusade for Christ, serving for seven years with its athletic arm, Athletes in Action. Ordained as a minister of the gospel in 1985, Ron also went on to receive an MA in biblical counseling from Tyndale Theological Seminary and Biblical Institute.
Ron has served in many ministerial positions. As minister of missions at Los Gatos Christian Church and pastor of family life and missions at Santa Cruz Bible Church, Ron traveled to twenty-seven countries, visiting and encouraging missionaries. He taught classes for couples and lay counseling courses. He also spoke regionally and nationally at missions conventions.
From 1989 until 2004, Ron worked as a pastoral counselor and later director of pastoral care at Link Care Counseling Center in Fresno.
In July of 2004, Ron and Joan formed the 501(c)3 non-profit public benefit corporation, Marriage Mentoring Ministries, Inc., with the hope of helping churches in central California train marriage mentor couples who would, in turn, help other couples begin and sustain vital and healthy marriages. Two years later, they formed the Healthy Marriage Coalition for the purpose of increasing their outreach to marriages beyond the faith community.
Ron and Joan are the proud parents of five children (two already in heaven since 1970 and 2013) and have five grandchildren, all of whom live in Fresno, California.
