C. S. Walter

Dr. Carla Stalling Walter is a dancer, scholar, and Soto Zen Buddhist whose work flows at the intersection of movement, mindfulness, and cultural healing. Holding a PhD in Dance History and Theory (now called Critical Dance Studies) from the University of California, Riverside, she is one of the leading voices exploring the role of embodied knowledge in wellness and identity, and Zen practice as dance dharma. As a former tenured professor, and spiritual teacher, her unique perspective bridges the analytical and the intuitive, the academic and the ancestral.

In 2022, Carla was the Martha Daniel Newell Visiting Scholar at Georgia College and State University. Prior to that she held faculty positions, and then served in leadership roles, from dean to chancellor, at public and private universities and colleges. She is a California native.
