David Schecter has been a writer his entire working life. He started out as a copywriter for card companies, toy companies, book publishers, and comedians, including American Greetings Corporation, Those Characters From Cleveland, Applause, Avanti, Hasbro, Playskool, Price Stern Sloan, Portal Publications, and others, writing licensing copy for projects involving a wide range of subjects, including Star Wars, The Three Stooges, Batman, Ziggy, Married With Children, Ren And Stimpy, The Simpsons, The Twilight Zone, Beavis And Butt-Head, Funky Winkerbean, The Jetsons, Archie, Scooby-Doo, Popeye, The Flintstones, Marvel Comics, Looney Tunes, and many more.
At the same time, he wrote articles for newspapers across the country, among them The Milwaukee Journal, The Cincinnati Inquirer, The Providence Journal, The Sacramento Union, and others. His cartoons have been published by Parade, Reader’s Digest, First For Women, and countless other periodicals.
Making the jump into music, Schecter became a producer and liner note writer for the Monstrous Movie Music soundtrack label, whose majestic recordings have been used in films, television and radio shows, and advertisements, as well as being enjoyed by film music fans around the world.
Schecter's knowledge about classic film music resulted in his doing commentaries for DVD/Blu-ray projects produced by Universal, Sony/Columbia, The Criterion Collection, Kino Lorber, Shout!, Scream, Imprint, and other companies. He was written extensively about this subject for various magazines, and some of the books he's contributed to include The Creature Chronicles, Bride of the Gorilla, The Indestructible Man, Sardonicus, The Atomic Submarine, and Universal Terrors 1951-1955.
David has edited a number of books, including actress Julie Adams’ The Lucky Southern Star, and Emmy Award-winning editor Mitchell Danton’s Cutting It in Hollywood.
Among Schecter's most recent projects, he co-wrote actress Francine York’s memoir, A TRAIL OF STARDUST, published two children's middle school novels: the comedic adventures A TAIL OF TWO SCOTTIES and A THIRD TAIL, and he wrote and produced the romantic-comedy podcast LISA AND LARRY'S LOVE LESSONS. He also wrote, directed, produced, and photographed a short film starring actor Joyce Meadows: NOT THE SAME OLD BRAIN, released on Blu-ray and DVD by The Film Detective.
Schecter has won three Rondo Awards, one for music producing, one for writing, and another for DVD commentary, and although he's won other awards in those fields, he states, "There's nothing’s cooler than a Rondo!"
He also created and produced Your Imagination Presents, an innovative form of storytelling designed to help foster creative thinking in young children, and he wrote Frosty's Family, a very silly cartoon book about snowmen. He has written many comedy screenplays, and is patiently waiting for somebody to option or purchase them!
In what little free time he has, he represents composers and music publishers regarding business and legal matters such as licensing, copyrights, and royalties.
