Tom Bennett

Tom Bennett (1947- ) Maritime explorer, researcher and author of historical books. His hobbies have been rock climbing to kayaking, wreck-diving to offshore sailing. His qualifications include beach lifeguard to professional Diver, RYA Sailing Instructor to ASA Swimming Teacher. After retirement in Local Government, he spent five years afloat sailing in the more exotic parts of the seven seas, from Greenland, Central America, Myanmar, to the Great Barrier Reef. He has written 6 books on Welsh Shipwrecks, an Index to 1800 Philippine Shipwrecks and a Yacht Cruising Guide to the Philippines. He is best known for his 'Sea Guide to Pembrokeshire' published by Imray. Tom has spent a lifetime studying the maritime history of Wales, and Britain's intertidal shipwrecks. One of his many books 'Maritime History of Newport, Pembrokeshire" lists details of the 80 ships built by the River Nevern from 1760 to 1850. During 2018, Tom commenced studying the Neolithic in Wales His first book on the Neolithic is entitled '3000 BC Death and Rebirth Rituals of Neolithic Wales'. During Covid Lockdown he spent his time producing two books on 'Shipwrecks for Walkers'. These are colourful, inspirational books for those wanting to know more about all the inter-tidal shipwrecks that can be seen on UK's beaches. Tom is presenty searching the Irish Sea coastline for evidence that the Altar Stone at Stonehenge came from Westray in Orkney, a 650 mile journey.
