Andrew Grevatt

Hello, I'm Andy Chandler-Grevatt.

I am a teacher, scientist and author. My main job is training science teachers of the future at the University of Brighton, UK, but alongside that I have a fantastic role in producing textbooks and resources for school science departments. I am a passionate educator with a fascination, some may say obsession, for observing and learning about the microscopic life in moss.

My most recent writing venture has been putting all my observations and learning into one book, Moss Safari: Exploring the secret life in moss, published by Pelagic Publishers.

In schools I am known for my role as Curriculum Editor for the Oxford University Press Activate and Smart Activate publications, which are the best selling science textbooks in England.

I was a secondary school science teacher for a decade before doing a doctorate in assessment in science education at the University of Sussex. I became an Advanced Skills Teacher, specialising in formative assessment and my popular classroom formative assessment activities with Level Ladders were published by Badger Publishing.

I have been fortunate enough to work in Kazakhstan, helping design their criteria based assessment model and was invited as the 'assessment expert' to the Waterloo Global Science Institute Learning2030 Summit, based in Canada. Closer to home I work with schools researching assessment and threshold concepts and supporting action research.

I'm a bit geeky and love all science and am fascinated by learning. I'm very keen on wildlife, nature and learning about the natural world.
