When I was a kid, if anyone asked me what I wanted to be when I grew up, without fail I would say, "A scientist and an inventor . . . or just a normal dad." I succeeded on the first half, but as my kids will tell you, I'll never be quite normal.
I am a PhD physicist with specialties in space physics and plasma transport. I now work in Southern California in a completely different specialty. The only space physics I get anymore is when I look up at stars, which is often. The only plasma physics I get anymore involves burning things with fire, which is not very often—at least, not with kids watching.
In my free time I enjoy writing, family vacations, board games, and reading science, math, or philosophy articles. Yeah . . . not quite normal.
