August W. Thurmer was born in the river town of Jackson, which is located in southwestern Minnesota. He spent 3 years in the Army after high school, being stationed in Europe. August was educated as a teacher and as a school administrator. He now lives in the scenic town of Eau Clair, Wisconsin. He is married to Dr. Anne Thurmer who is an Associate Vice President of Academics at Chippewa Valley Technical College, as well as having two wonderful children, Will (20), and Abby (18) who are now students at Concordia College in Moorhead, Minnesota. August has a natural love for history that he has shared with his children while they were growing up in the beautiful wooded Mississippi river town of Winona, Minnesota. He loves to read about English history and its many diverse populations. Sir Arthur Conan Doyle and James Herriot are two of his favorite authors from Great Britain.
