Ronnie Levine

Ronnie Levine is an artist and writer. She paints outdoors whenever possible, and loves sharing her enthusiasm for transforming life into art. People of all kinds come along to see what she's doing, and she takes pride in the diversity of those whose enjoyment of her work is clear. While painting on Main Street in Tarrytown, a village along the Hudson River in New York, she met and got to know a police detective whose family owns an ice cream shop there, and eventually was inspired to create a fictional character based on him. Combining her Tarrytown experiences with her experience doing copies in the Metropolitan Museum in New York, and noting over time how other copyists' work differed from the masterpieces, she conceived and wrote The Ice Cream Shop Detective. In it, fictional Nick Bellini asks artist Lissa Franklin to keep her eyes open for art forgeries thought to be coming out of the local area. What follows is part artist's adventure and part thoughts about traditional and contemporary art. The goal is to give people a good read, of course, as well as a greater understanding of what makes some art special.
