Simon I. Singer

My life as a sociologically oriented criminologist began in the South Bronx of New York City. I'm delighted that "America's Safest City," & my earlier book, "Recriminalizing Delinquency" have been so well received--not just by the community of academic scholars, but also by the larger reading public of parents, therapists and youth service professional. Both books draw on an array of ethnographic and quantitative sources of data. My efforts to write clearly through numerous rewrites and to collect my own data seems to have paid off! America's Safest City won the American Society of Criminology's 2015 Hindelang award. Recriminalizing Delinquency won the American Sociological Association's 1999 Reiss award in Crime, Law and Deviance. I hope my next book project on the life course of juveniles sentenced to life will be as well received. Please do not hesitate to email at s.singer@neu.edu, if you'd to learn more about my efforts to contribute to policies about youth crime and our justice system.
