In August 2014, I gave up driving a London taxi for living after more than four decades and although I was glad to get out, the history of the vehicles still fascinates me. I have written four books on the subject, co-authored a fifth and have written the definitive history of Britain's most prominent and long-lived taxi maker, Carbodies Ltd (now The London Electric Vehicle Company). This book was 'Carbodies the Complete Story' and I have begun a new, larger and more comprehensive edition. In progress alongside this is a new, full-colour book on the history of the London taxi.
Released in May 2019 was my latest book, 'Traction for Sale: the story of Ferguson Formula Four-wheel Drive', co-written with Pat Turner. This has been the culmination of twenty years' interest in the subject. It is available from Amazon and all high street and on line retailers, as well as direct from my website, www.earlswoodpress.co.uk
But life is not all about writing. I love good food and have a professional catering qualification, which adds a different dimension to visiting restaurants! My wife and I are keen ballroom dancers, a hobby that has the great advantage of combining a social side with excellent exercise.
