Monica Joyce

Monica Joyce, MS, RDN, CDE is a registered dietitian and certified diabetes educator. She is currently employed at Lake Forest Hospital/Northwestern Medicine in Lake Forest Illinois. She is a national speaker on diabetes to health care professionals. Monica has a certificate in Culinary Nutrition and is a partner in the corporation Culinary Medics.

Monica is the Founder and Executive Director of Slam Dunk for Diabetes a basketball camp for children ages 5 to 18 founded in 2004. Slam Dunk is the only day basketball camp for children with type1 & 2 diabetes and prediabetes. Though it targets low-income high-risk kids and no child is turned away. Camp is offered at no charge each summer to as many as 200 children through private donations and corporate sponsorship. In 2017 Slam Dunk for Diabetes received the national award from the American Association of Diabetes Educators for excellence in media and technology for their animated exercise video for children called Exercising Safely with Diabetes.

In 2013 she was recognized for Slam Dunk for Diabetes by the American Association of Diabetes Educators at the annual meeting. In 2014, she was recognized by the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics for March National Nutrition Month's theme "Showcasing Our Nutrition Heroes "for Slam Dunk for Diabetes. Monica has also been featured in the Chicago Sunday Tribune’s series Remarkable Women and Diane Banks (93.9 Radio) Woman of the Week.

Monica is an author, along with her colleague Jackie King from Arlington Heights of the book Too Busy to Diet.

Monica also wrote a children’s book called The Adventures of Annie Bananie. This true story is about a 14 year old blind poodle that outlived her owners and was looking for her forever home. It highlights the plight of the older dog that needs a home and so often is overlooked.
