James E. Doane

James E. Doane earned a Ph.D. in Mechanical Engineering at the University of Louisville. His doctoral and master’s research focused on subjects of kinematics. The research involved vibration, wave propagation in elastic solids, structural health monitoring, and biomechanics. He has authored numerous research papers on topics dealing with structural health monitoring, gait biomechanics, and engineering education. He is a registered professional engineer in Indiana.

Dr. Doane has been a faculty member of the University of Louisville, Indiana Institute of Technology, University of Evansville and is currently the chair of Mechanical Engineering at the University of Jamestown. His teaching covered undergraduate courses focusing on mechanical design, dynamics, vibration, machine analysis, biomechanics, and engineering mathematics. He has served on numerous committees and has been actively involved in advisory teams to improve university’s engineering programs.

In addition to his academic career, Dr. Doane has many years’ experience working in the engineering profession. Much of his industrial experience deals with the design of material handling systems. He worked as a design engineer in engineering consulting firms where he did layout and design of bulk material handling systems, design of storage bins and hoppers, and structural design of mezzanines and equipment support structures. He also has extensive work experience in the mining industry. His mining experience includes layout and design of underground vertical mine production and service shafts, design of service elevators for service shafts, design of hoisting equipment, design of wire rope attachments, and design of bulk material handling systems. He has also performed structural evaluation of existing mezzanines, building steel and foundations, and equipment support steel.
