Rafael Luciani

Rafael Lucianiis a Venezuelan layman, Doctor in Theology from the Pontifical Gregorian University and postdoctoral research at the Julius Maximilians Universität, Germany. In recognition of his theological and pastoral contributions to the global Church, he was awarded an honorary degree of Doctor Honoris Causa in Theology by the Faculty of Theology of the Dominican Aquinas Institute of Theology (USA). He is Full Professor at the Jesuit Universidad Católica Andrés Bello in Venezuela and Professor Ordinarius at the Jesuit School of Theology of Santa Clara University in Berkeley. He previously served as Professor at the Boston College School of Theology and Ministry and is also Guest Professor at several universities, including the Pontificia Universidad Bolivariana in Colombia and the Pontificia Universidad Católica del Perú. He currently teaches Ecclesiology, Latin American Theology, Vatican II and Synodality. He serves as Expert of CELAM (Latin American Episcopal Council), where he also assists as Senior Director of its Center for Theological Formation (CEBITEPAL). He is Member of the Theological Advisory Team of the Presidency of CLAR (Latin American Confederation of Religious) and coordinates the Ibero-American Theology Project. He is a member and a co-coordinator of the Intercontinental Seminar Group Peter & Paul for the reform of the Catholic Church. He was Expert to REPAM (Pan-Amazonian Ecclesial Network) during the Synod for the Amazon. Currently, is an Expert of the Theological Commission of the General Secretariat of the Synod and was an Expert of the XVI Ordinary General Assembly of the Synod of Bishops on Synodality.
