Underqualified for a proper job and overqualified for an, erm, improper one, Matthew picked up a pencil one day and uncovered latent talent as a writer. His first novel OSPREY told the tale of a dubious politician with an even more dubious idea involving flying wind turbines.
In writing about politicians making a complete mess of energy policy, he may have been ahead of his time.
Comically impecunious, Matthew's dream of a farmhouse in the Finistère department of Brittany remains elusive. Anyone wishing to prolong his foolish fantasy can buy OSPREY here or through all good bookshops.
Matthew is also the author of The Manchester Heinkel - the true story of the only enemy aircraft to be shot down over Greater Manchester during WW2 (it crashed at Hazel Grove) and Peugeot 205 GTI, a history of the superlative hot hatchback.
He has written another novel and is contemplating what to do with it. There may also be another non-fiction book in him yet - we'll just have to see,
