Tam Hunt

Tamlyn ("Tam") Hunt is a philosopher, consciousness researcher, lawyer and writer. With Jonathan Schooler at UC Santa Barbara, he co-developed General Resonance Theory, which proposes that consciousness arises from synchronized vibrations, including the electromagnetic fields of the brain. His scientific papers have appeared in journals including the Journal of Consciousness Studies and Frontiers in Human Neuroscience, and his essays in Scientific American and Nautilus. His newest book is The Hippies Were Right! About Consciousness and Everything Else (Imprint Academic, 2026).

Raised in the counterculture, Tam served in the U.S. Army before turning to biology, law and philosophy. After 20 years in California as a renewable energy lawyer and writer, he moved to the Big Island of Hawaii in 2016. He also writes on climate, technology and the future. AI inspires and scares him more than almost anything, and he has shifted much of his energy to AI safety.

When he's not reading and writing, he's dancing, chatting over coffee, playing tennis, hanging out with friends or traveling. Tam is a proud dog and kitty father.
