"What Does Evil Prove About God?" is my first (and to date my only) book.

My day job is in quality engineering. Among other things, the work involves reviewing the requirements for a computer system, and checking those requirements against logic-based standards of clarity, consistency, and completeness. If the requirements are ambiguous, conflicting, or incomplete, then I send word back to the author to get those problems fixed.

I've been doing this kind of thing for over 20 years now -- long enough that it's become an ingrained habit. No matter what I'm reading, I'll find myself checking to make sure it's clear, consistent, and complete. Sometimes it gets in the way of just enjoying the thing, but it's one way I can sort out the sharp, careful authors from the sloppy, lazy ones.

This is the background I brought to my first real reading of the Bible -- and my analysis of the "Problem of Evil" (or the "Missing-God Argument," as I call it).

When it comes to the Bible, I found out for myself that it does hold together. Amazingly so, in fact. You'll hear no end of claims about its supposed contradictions and inaccuracies, but those claims are based on misreads, misunderstandings, and plain old red herrings.

When it comes to the Missing-God Argument... well, the list of logical flaws is pretty long. I never realized just how long until I set out to write that first book. I think it was a worthwhile effort though, and I hope that you do too.
