I lived in the Cass Corridor of Detroit, homeless and on Heroin. I stole from people and sold flowers on street corners. Spent 3 years in Michigan's Jackson penitentiary and identified Roxanne, my partner of 10 years, who died of a heroin overdose.
I went through Teen Challenge, a Christian rehab program where I got clean, met Jesus, and started developing a purpose for my life. I moved 180 miles west to work for West MI Teen Challenge in Muskegon, on the shores of Lake Michigan. I worked there for nearly 5 years and met my best friend, Sui, who became my wife on April Fools Day, 1995.
We opened a mission center and church in downtown Muskegon Heights, one of Michigan's highest crime and poverty areas. We called it Hope Lighthouse initially but changed our name in 2019 to City Heart Ministries.
