Steven Minchin

A somewhat self taught Poet, Painter, Photographer and Performance Artist Steven has been creating in the material world for over 2 decades. His work addresses, exalts and exploits madness with forays into the unseen, escape, and the little moments we all share that are trap doors to greater things. Shackled by Abstract Expressionism, The New York School, Dada and its post-modern descendants Steven creates with a release to chance and a hope that through your eyes and his works you can escape into something that teases a greater you.

In 2013 Steven received his first Pushcart Prize nomination from Crack the Spine Literary Journal for the poem, Over Exposure. He has over 70 publication credits presenting more than 95 of his poems. In addition to poetry Steven paints, creates photo, video and experimental sense works.

Steven enjoys calling himself Steven and capturing things he’s seen almost as much as things he has not. To date he has quite a collection of both.

Compelled by his ongoing contemporary nature, Steven makes Facebook a warehouse for his artistic scraps, Twitter his notebook and Tumblr his gallery of offspring. He has no children. Steven was once a 32 year old student of Information Design and Creative Studies-Writing at Sage College of Albany, and has also studied at The Museum of Modern Art. (The Fox Network and many random things laying on the sidewalk have also played a role in his instruction.) Steven has played guitar, flute, trombone and on occasion a girl. He was once fired after playing with a cash register microphone for five years. Steven lived with a piano for twice as long, but never even introduced himself to it after it moved in. He does not care for live music.

Steven’s work* (or something like it) has appeared in Mad Swirl, Heavy Hands Ink, Short, Fast and Deadly, vox poetica, Four and Twenty and various ladies rooms, with physical manifestations hanging at The Lark Street BID, Photographic Expressions Studio & Gallery, the Romaine Brooks Gallery, The Wine Bar and Bistro on Lark, Capital City Gastropub, Cafe Hollywood, and Garden Alley.
