Adam Burns

Dr Adam Burns is Head of Politics at Brighton College. He has written widely on the political history of the United States and on the subject of imperialism. He is the author of three books, as well as numerous articles and book chapters. He has also co-edited a collection on sports and the US presidency with Dr Rivers Gambrell and a four volume collection of primary sources for Routledge titled, "American Imperialism in the Long Nineteenth Century: A Documentary History, 1775–1919," with Drs Alys Beverton, Alex Bryne and Edd Mair. He is currently co-authoring a Cambridge University Press "Elements" volume titled, "Empire, Identity, and Education: How Students Really Learn about the British Empire," with Dr Abigail Branford, which is expected in 2026.

He is a Fellow of the Royal Society of Arts, Chartered College of Teaching and the Royal Historical Society, and a Senior Fellow of the Higher Education Academy.
