Elizabeth Prokopuk is an artist and a writer. She uses the name Rowan as her pen name. She was born in Warsaw, Poland and migrated to New York City as a little girl. She was always passionate about books. So much so that when her family was packing to move, she refused to leave her library of children's books behind.
Growing up in the Village during the sixties and seventies she contributed to neighborhood papers, studied music and fine art.
After graduating from F.I.T. she went on to have a very successful career in the
fashion industry. Now she is using her background in art and writing to pursue her passion for creating magical stories and illustrating them.
The name "Rowan" is a name of a tree which is believed to have magical powers by ancient tree worshipers.
So it is fitting that it be used to intrigue children's imaginations.
