Born in Woolwich, S.E.London, and educated at Crown Woods Comprehensive, my first job was with British Transport Advertising, followed by a decade in office equipment sales, until a move with my wife and two sons to Brisbane opened up creative ambitions as radio copywriter, travel film writer, children's author, TV sitcom and BBC writer/broadcaster. Returning to England in 1997 I completed three novels and produced a series of films for schools featuring famous children's authors, including the then current Children's Laureates Jacqueline Wilson, Anne Fine and Anthony Browne, filmed in their homes and on school visits. Fulltime voice-over work ran alongside writing three 'Maxwell the Penguin' books and a series of Aussie picture books all illustrated by childhood friend Jim Robins. I live in an old farm cottage in Kent 25 miles south of my birthplace, still reading 'as if for life' (7-year-old Charles Dickens in his Chatham bedroom) as I have every day since I could hold a book. The best addiction in the world.
