Kim McLendon

Kim grew up in a small farming community in North Carolina. When she was a child, her family operated half a dozen greenhouses and a wheat farm. Kim loved the greenhouses especially, because they enabled her to enjoy the warm sun, even in January. Her first introduction to religion came from a small Lutheran church, where she first learned that God is love.

In those days her world seemed so small and manageable. Her father went to the country store every day. The store stood between her house and the church. Her grandfather worked with her dad and lived right next door. Everyone in the neighborhood seemed like cousins, and many of them were.

A small community though, did not make for small thinking. Kim considered big ideas. She was interested in psychology, sociology, politics, and especially religion. She knew that the world was suffering under poverty, war, and death. She wondered how she could make the world a better place. She was a visionary from an early age, always wondering what it all meant. Though she felt connected to nature, and her family, she knew that there was more out there, spiritually.

She wanted to know God, on a deeper level than had ever been explained to her. She began to study the bible at age 8. At age 13 she made a commitment to Christ, and started to attend an Assemblies of God church. She loved church and as a teen became acquainted with the pastors and congregations of many of the various Pentecostal, Word of Faith, Baptist and Four Square churches, in her area. As a young adult she attended church nearly every day. She sought God’s will in her life and sincerely loved the Lord.

Kim moved to Charlotte NC in order to attend Art School and establish her career, but moved back to her community in 1983. She studied bible, inner healing and deliverance from a woman in her church for four years and became a qualified deliverance minister. She enjoyed using her abilities to help people. Wherever she goes, people seem to seek her out. She has ministered to friends and strangers in quiet ways, all her life. She offers gentle words and soft answers to those who ask, and many people ask.

In 1988, she married her husband Barrett, and raised two children in the house her grandfather built in 1920. Caring for her family and studying a wide variety of Christian books, consumed most of her time for the next 25 years. She was a home-school mom. Still, she continued to work, promoting small business her county, and neighboring areas.

During her career, Kim ran a full service advertising agency, published a things-to-do paper in her area and also handled the typeset and layout, for a dozen Senior Savvy magazines for different counties in NC. She did promotions for many local businesses and worked on ad campaigns for local fund raisers. She enjoyed doing architectural renderings for buildings to be built in her area.

The internet opened a whole new world for Kim and her family. Her husband became a network administrator and IT consultant. Meanwhile, Kim learned to study religion and spirituality in a whole new way. Suddenly she had access to nearly limitless knowledge at her fingertips and so she began to study a wealth of information, about spirituality, theology, Christianity and early church history.

Kim loves to discuss theology. In a recent visit and bible study with one of her favorite Lutheran pastors, he asked her, “Why do you know all of this? What causes you to study it all so much? You know things that no one has asked me about since Seminary!” The question simply dumbfounded Kim, and she could not answer. She knew he enjoyed her visits. It was wonderful to be able to exchange ideas with someone who actually knew what he was talking about, no matter how complex he went, but why did she study? His question perplexed her and still does.

Kim has sought the answers to the most complex spiritual questions all her life. She spent hours, nearly every day, seeking answers to all the hard questions. Her life is Christ centered. She is not a legalist, but rather relies on divine guidance and her understanding of being free in Christ. She lives a simple life of quiet reflection and offers spiritual guidance to those who ask.
