Patrick Allen, retired Professor of Higher Education and Leadership in the School of Education at George Fox University, joined the institution in July 2008 and served as Provost until July 2013. Dr. Allen earned the Bachelor of Arts degree in psychology from Olivet Nazarene University, a Master of Arts degree in liberal arts from Southern Methodist University, the Master of Science in management from Southern Nazarene University, and the Ph.D. in higher education from the University of Oklahoma, where he specialized in the history and philosophy of higher education, organization theory, and management history.
His first book, Faith and Learning, coauthored with Ken Badley, was published by Abilene Christian University Press in 2014. His second book, Morning Resolve, was released October 2015 by Cascade Press, and co-author Ken Badley and Allen have another book, Echoes of Insight: Past Perspectives and the Future of Christian Higher Education with Abilene Christian University Press, released in February 2017. A bookend to Morning Resolve: For Today: A Prayer When Life Gets Messy, was released in July 2018, The Good Shepherd, Gentle Guide, and Gracious Host in March, 2020, and Love at Its Best When Church is a Mess in October, 2020, all by Cascade Press, an imprint of Wipf & Stock Publishers in Eugene Oregon. His latest books, Practicing the Prayer of St. Francis (2022) and Forty Days and Forty Nights (2024), were published by Wipf And Stock.
Patrick and his wife, Lori, reside in Newberg, Oregon.
