Susan Merryvale is a pen name of Caroline D. Hutton, author and publisher, who writes under her own name (God's Messenger...available on Amazon) as well as Susan Merryvale and Tilly Hutton (her poodle: Poodles Don't Do Dishes, also available on Amazon).
Caroline is the daughter of the late William DuBois, playwright, novelist, literary critic and fiction editor of the New York Times Sunday Book Review for 40 years. She majored in creative writing at Columbia University where she studied under such luminaries as Ellen Lewis Buell (first full time children's editor at the Time Book Review). She has complied - mostly for amusement - a 350 word biography which follows:
- In the almost three quarters of a century I have been on earth I have experienced a myriad of situations, all of which are a part and parcel of the state I call life.
- I have attended a confirmation (more than once), a graduation (ditto), an ordination, an inauguration and a coronation.
- I have dated at least 50 men, some casually some more intensely and have had 6 proposals. (if you don't believe me you can request the list from huttonpublishing.com. Maybe you are on it?) That I chose he absolutely wrong one is probably a facet of my stubborn personality.
-I have had two children and have buried one.
-I have had three careers: in travel, food and entertainment and in books
-I am a thirteenth generation American, listed in both the Social Register and Who's Who.
-I have been an expatriate on three occasions: London, London and Mexico City, for a total time of over ten years.
-I have visited forty-nine of the fifty states (Alaska being the missing one) and at least twenty-five foreign countries, with India being the farthest east.
-I was privately educated, both in single sex and coed education and think single is probably less distracting. I was trained as a chef by the assistant head of the Cordon Bleu in America. I have a thorough knowledge of French food, table settings, invitations and flower arranging.
-I play bridge, backgammon, poker, chess and scrabble. In my youth I learned to ride, play golf and tennis, skim and ski. I also do ballet, ballroom and square dancing.
-The sun total of my areas of expertise used to be called being accomplished or well-rounded; I don't know what it is called now.
-I call it my life.
