I know what it's like to be an expat trying to make your home in another country. Like my co-author Rachel, I've been there and done that and learnt much along the way. I also know what it's like to be a coach and supporter of expats as they move. I've worked with hundreds moving to many different places.
Many expats and global travellers move countries without much support. We wanted to provide that - to be the coach and supporter in your pocket. Your move is unique because you are unique. Your location may be different to the ones we have lived in (China, Australia, Kenya, USA, UK, New Zealand) but we know you can observe and reflect, plan and learn and adapt. Journalling is a great way to do that.
My training as a Psychologist and my love of learning has helped me to explore the research about transitions and change management, about cultural intelligence (CQ) and cultural adaptation, and to bring it all together in the training and coaching I provide. But Rachel and I know many people don't receive cultural training or expat coaching.
So this isn't a book that tells you how to behave in another country but a guided journal that helps you to reflect on what you want, what you see, what you are feeling and how you are progressing in your new home abroad. We also offer you the chance to stay in touch with us as you move and join in more learning experiences with us. See the last appendix for instructions!
