Velma Williams is a first-time author. The Lifter of My Head was released in July 2014. Velma, with a tendency to champion the down-trodden, was drawn to producing a heroine who though having been born in an upper middle-class home, finds herself in a castaway situation, through indiscreet choices made while away at college.
The Lifter of My Head is a Christian Romance. This genre seemed to be the right niche for Velma, though she hadn't thought about writing at all, until she sat down one day and began to write a Tween story. That story expanded to a six-story book, still to be published.
Velma loves to sing, and thus found herself singing with a para-church group, that ministered in prisons and nursing homes. After retiring from a psychiatric nurse position, she taught parenting classes in a women's prison, as a volunteer for Prison Fellowship. She also taught bible study at a local jail, and recently retired as chaplain from a county jail. Her blogs reflects her heart for those who may feel disenfranchised. Her goal is to offer encouragement and hope to those who sometimes feel hopeless.
