I grew up in one of the first generations of writers that had stories told to them through interactive games. The Nintendo and Super Nintendo were my libraries, those stories stayed with me growing up.
It's a unique way to get stories burnt into your brain, to actually play them. It was amazing watching the cutscenes unfold in the acts of the 1980s Ninja Gaiden and know you weren't going to see how it ended unless you cowboyed up and became the hero. And those games were hard, so the narrative was a reward for your ability to problem solve.
You'll find a ton of references and homages to some of these stories I loved in everything I write. I consider stories like dreams, you can't dream anything in your sleep that you haven't seen somewhere before. It's a memory. I'm doing my best to take these "dreams" of my childhood and arrange them in a way that I hope will help others enjoy the themes the same way I did.
