About Paul Barr, Author of Therein Goodness Stands You
Paul Eugene Barr was born in New London, Connecticut, a small whaling town on the shoreline. He joined the U.S. Army signal core at the age of 17 in 1968. He did three years overseas in Schweinfurt, Germany, from 1969 to 1971. Home of the 3rd infantry division who liberated the Iraqi people from terrible oppression and genocide. Came back home briefly in 1971 and lived while working for a few months on Fishers Island, New York in construction. Went to Philadelphia with the Bohn family from the Island. Left there for overseas again to a tiny island called Ascension Island in the Atlantic Ocean, where God introduced Himself early one afternoon, rather abruptly due to a spiritual paralyzation struggle Mr. Barr recalls. He lived through it and became born again and started writing for Christ in March of 1973. He is still writing over 4 decades later.
He came back home and moved from New London to Waterford in 1977. Joined Pleasant Valley church in 1988 and started working in their Care An Share soup kitchen over at Claude Chester middle school for twelve years with Mr. Bill and Pat Willard and Mr. Howard and Glenda Walker, my buddies! Also started to work a little bit later for another local soup kitchen in New London for Mrs. Laurie Bellinger and Lucille Smith before she took ill and passed away. Then her long time friend Lucille took over until she couldn't work anymore, God bless them both for their awesome Christian love, faith & belief in our Lord & Savior Jesus Christ. They were a blessing to me & many other souls they served during their 40 year lives as servants of the Most High God of all creation. Paul worked for about four years learning much concerning the plight of the poor and downtrodden in our society.
Barr considers himself to be living as a changed person from previous years not knowing life's spiritual truth and never realized there was a higher spiritual truth needed inside the heart and soul prior to leaving this world. In an earlier period of his life, egocentricity took hold of him and became a mirror image through which he saw a distorted view of himself and the world around him.
After being touched by God, he changed his life drastically, like doing a one-eighty in a hurry (smile)! Barr's faith and belief have guided him toward a better way of life, allowing him to see and feel a deeper spiritual truth within his heart, as he says, that's where the journey starts. It is this vision that he shared with the world in Therein Goodness Stands You, and his newly released CD's of voice recorded songs through a number of his very best written lyrics, especially his blues lyrics. They give a vision of truth, hope, and love for a dying, self-centered world caught up in a tragic struggle for power and greed that is affecting all our families lives, especially today, as we prepare to walk through the threshold of the twenty-first century.
In addition to his passion for writing, he also loves sports and enjoys football, basketball, baseball, Frisbee throwing in the nearest park and pitching horseshoes. He loves music, like black gospel, contemporary, blues, and rock 'n roll. He also enjoys a few different games such as backgammon, Parcheesi, dominos, checkers, and chess. Though in the evenings he enjoys reading God's breathed holy Word to close out the day.
