Michael Crowl (Mike, if you prefer) is the author of The UNDERCURRENT Series, a Sci-Fi/Adventure set in the underwater city of Aquataine. The story starts in the year 2135 with the first book in the series, UNDERCURRENT, Crowl's first novel, released in February 2019. Mike prefers to think of this city as the setting of a future that defines the spirit of a determined people destined to overcome whatever challenges face them. That made writing the second book, RISE OF THE WAVE, feel that much more real to him. Get to know the characters as well as he does. Share a coffee with them. Hang out if you like. Just remember this is still fiction, okay?
Fiction is how Crowl travels to interesting places outside the non-fictional world, which has become more and more necessary lately. UNDERCURRENT is the first of three books. And so it begins, the journeys of Phelan Maxwell as he confronts the evil Saxon Cole, who is trying to seize control of the domed city of Aquataine, control their resources, and rule his part of the world. Let's hope Phelan remembers how dangerous Cole can be, because he's going to have to survive through two more books!
You get a glimpse of The Wave's corruption and desperation as we learn what motivates them in RISE OF THE WAVE. There seems to be no limit to the lengths The Wave will go to in order to get what they want. You'd think they might have learned from last year's defeat, but now, they've upped their game. But when the new dome minister seeks help from the Undercurrent, Phelan feels compelled to get involved and bring The Wave to justice.
He's also worked on a historical fiction based on his ancestral research that is next in line after The UNDERCURRENT Series. That love of historical fiction is a result of his childhood, hopping out of the 69 Catalina at every historic landmark on the east coast that his parents could find during vacations. If there was a person in period costume, or a collection of pewter tankards on a shelf, or the threat of simulated cannon fire, we were there.
Mike's favorite advice has been, “Read, Write, Revise, Repeat.” He writes on a laptop in a recliner, and usually with the television on in the background. Rule-breaker. That's what he is... a gosh-darn rule-breaker.
