Jason Whitehead holds a J.D. (cum laude) from Willamette University and a Ph.D. in political science from the University of Southern California. Between law school and grad school, he clerked at the Oregon Court of Appeals and then served as a staff attorney at the United States District Court in Los Angeles. He is currently an associate professor of political science and director of the Legal Studies program at California State University, Long Beach, where he has taught for the last 20 years. He has published one other book and several journal articles in the fields of American politics and public law. Dr. Whitehead has given many public speeches and lectures on judicial decision making, the rule of law, and the intersection of religion and American politics. He is a frequent guest on national and local television and radio, including NPR, NBC News, and CBS News. He has also been quoted in the Los Angeles Times and the San Francisco Chronicle. Finally, Professor Whitehead is a member of several professional organizations, including the American Political Science Association, the American Society of Political and Legal Philosophers, the Law and Society Association, the Western Political Science Association, and the Religion in Society Knowledge Community. He and his family live in southern California.
