Kevin Brown

I was born in the Bronx, New York, fully immersed in the culture of Hip Hop. As a true hip-hop-head of the 80’s and 90s, I tried my hand at break-dancing, tagging graffiti on project buildings, beat-boxing, scratching records and making pause tapes. However, it was the inner-music the rhymes made that spoke to my soul and lit a flame of passion within that influenced me to write.

As a teen, I was addicted to creating intricate rhyme schemes. As I matured, the burning desire to condense all of my thoughts into rhyme-form began to wane and a new flame of passion was lit, one of a storyteller. I went from budding emcee to budding novelist instantly.

Once I discovered my true calling, I knew it was crucial to secure a full time job that would still allow time to pursue my passion. I attended Mercy College in New York and earned a master’s degree in education, figuring a career as a teacher would provide the opportunity to inspire a new generation of writers while still pursuing my own desire to write. As a writer and an educator, it is essential that I write novels that will appeal to reluctant readers and at-risk teens. Each novel that I write features relatable characters and realistic stories, laced with life lessons.
