I was born in 1951 in the town of Brentwood, a few miles outside of London, England. When I was six my family immigrated to Canada on the good ship Fairsea, and from there we later moved to the United States.
After serving in the Marine Corps I attended college on the GI Bill, discovered economics, and went on to a career in the investment management business.
After the sudden death of my wife I bought a boat thinking that it would be a fun challenge for my young children and I to figure out the basics of sailing. That was my rationale anyway. This led slowly to my growth as a sailor and, after my children entered their adult years, to my participation in the 2009 OSTAR (Oldest Singlehanded Trans-Atlantic Race).
Sea Trials is my first book. It’s as much a memoir as a sailing book, but there’s a good bit of sailing in it. I hope you enjoy it.
